The Portico isn't your grandparents' church!

And we don't think that's a bad thing. We're intentionally different, a bit raw and edgy at times, but more than anything else, real.

We realize that the church of the 19th century isn't relevant for a 21st century world.  Times have changed, yet we believe God is every bit as real now as then.

From the ground up - in the way we worship, the way we define terms like community and mission, or our intentionality in welcoming all people regardless of their lifestyles and beliefs, The Portico is intended to be a new idea of church.

We are folks from the metro Charlotte area interested in being all those things many people think of when they hear the term “emerging church.”

We are excited about all that God is doing in many different communities and within different theological perspectives.  We are people who want “church” to be something more, something fresh, something risky, and something real.

We want our faith and our sense of being called by God to live in authentic and vulnerable community to impact every area of our lives.

Many of us are lifelong Presbyterians.  Some of us are new to any idea of Christian Community.  But all of us want church to be more than we’ve yet found.

We don’t fully know what it will look like, but we're willing to risk the journey of letting our lives and our faith “emerge” along with it.

You never know... We might be just the type of community you've been looking for!
