Coming Friday, December 2nd:

A film by Robert Greenwald

IMPORTANT AND EXCITING UPDATE!

At our screening on Dec. 2nd, we will have in person with us one of the long-time Wal-Mart Managers who appears in the film! He appears in one of the movie trailers, "Confessions of a Wal-Mart Hit Man." (Click the link on the left to watch the trailer.) His story is profound, a bit disturbing, and courageous. Hearing some of what he will say is probably as important as viewing the film. (Like what brings him to live in "the Charlotte area" -- don't ask him more than that, because he can't, and won't say.)

There is a bulletin insert / flyer available for download in MS Word format HERE. It's a Zipped file and once unzipped, it will give you two 1/2 page color flyers to print out. Make some and give them to your friends! (I really think this is an important way to share some of what makes us unique as a faith community with others, so don't bail out on this opportunity!)

Note about Children on Dec. 2nd: While Greenwald's film is certainly appropriate for all ages to watch, some younger children might find it too long to keep their attention. We will have a children's film showing back in the Kids' Porch if they need a "break" and will have some of our folk taking turns staffing that. (There are also games and play toys in the Kids' Porch -- we have one of the largest collections of building blocks in the area!)

* * * * *

Is Wal-Mart a spiritual issue? Do our shopping habits have implications for our spiritual formation and discipleship? Do lower costs and convenience have any connection to our call to follow Jesus and serve others?

Important questions, these. And perplexing ones to answer faithfully.

If you're interested in exploring how a Saturday trip to Wal-Mart might just be a spiritual issue, join us for our Portico Cinema evening on Friday, December 2nd. (See our When and Where page for directions to the Basement.)

The popcorn bar will open at 6:30 PM. The film begins at 7 PM. Discussion to follow the film.
